CAPM - Certified Associate of
Project Management |
SYNOPSIS
The PMI Certified Associate of
Project Management (CAPM) program
is the introductory certification
offered by the Project Management
Institute (PMI) and is a relative
newcomer on the block when
compared to the industry standard
Project Management Professional (PMP).
This certification presents some
very exciting new prospects for
the field as a whole because it is
one of the first exams to require
very little professional
experience in order to be taken.
According to PMI,
individualscan qualify to take the
CAPM when they have amassed a
total of 1500 hours of project
management experience in addition
to having a high school diploma.
Alternatively, candidates can
elect to substitute experience for
23 hours of formal project
management education. Possessors
of the CAPM certification usually
hold titles such as manager,
director, or project manager.
This certification is well
suited to IT project managers. The
CAPM designation is achieved by
passing one formal exam. In terms
of maintaining the CAPM
certification, those who have been
granted the CAPM credential must
demonstrate an ongoing
professional commitment to the
field of project management by
satisfying PMI’s Continuing
Certification Requirements
Program.
